3D Animation of double asteroid 809 Lundia

In 2005 Polish astronomers from the Poznan Astronomical Observatory discovered the binary nature of the known since 1915 asteroid 809 Lundia... According to prelimiary estimates, the 809 Lundia binary consists of two components 6 km each, separated by 35 km. Astronomers discovered that 809 Lundia is a binary by observing the mutual occultations of the components which occur every 7.5 hrs. In this simulation the motion of components is accelerated by the factor of 1000 times -- the occultations can be seen here every 27 seconds

Delightful animation of triple asteroid 87 Sylvia

This is probably ma best 3D animation because I used true shape model of an asteroid... The asteroid 87 Sylvia was already known by the late 19th century, but the first and outer one of its moonlets -- 87 Sylvia I Romulus -- was discovered a few years ago in 2001. And the second one -- 87 Sylvia II Remus -- was known since mid-2004, but the discovery was officially disclosed a year later. Special thanks to Mr. Mikko Kaasalainen for 87 Sylvia shape model - Mr. Pascal Descamps for useful sugestions and Mr. M.Matraszek and Mr. K.Pankowski for other helping.

A common center of gravity for two masses. Distance to the baricenter is strongly dependant on the difference between them. The baricenter of the Solar System is located 300000 km above the surface of the Sun and is constantly shifting in space. The shift is caused by the orbital motion of the planets mainly Jupiter and Saturn which are the most massive ones...
